Schools during covid in the Turks and Caicos
It was a difficult decision to be made with all of the uncertainties of covid-19. Just before the term ended in December for the Christmas and New years break some schools were doing face to face with the higher grades while the smaller children were at home doing online classes. While other schools had blended learning.
Now it's January and the Schools in the Turks and Caicos have resorted completely to online learning.
After almost a year of this new way of teaching and learning, students, teachers and parents are still not totally settled and convinced that this is the best approach. But what can one do, in order to stay safe, except abide by the laws?
Some schools had to make many adjustments such as:
- Reduce the student to teacher ratio, to allow for Social distancing.
- Renovate the classrooms to allow more space for students.
- Employ more domestic staff to ensure maximum sanitization within the classrooms.
- Restrict the flow of visitors at the schools.
- Teachers who were rusty with technology had to upgrade themselves within a short time, and find creative ways of teaching online to keep the engagement of the students and ensure learning is taking place for a distance.
The schools are complying to the protocols set out by the TCI Government. The safety of the students are their utmost priority.
